28th March - Snowdon - Wales
Overall the training session went well. It assesed the inital level of fitness for all of us, what to expect and if the team can pull together when we need to.
- 10am
We all met up at The Pinnacle Pursuits Cafe in Capel Curig off the A5. Whilst waiting for other members to arrive some delved into a hearty full english breakfast. Upon their arrival they too had a hearty english breakfast.
- 11.15am
We arrived at the car park in Nant Peris half way between Llanberis and Pen Y Pas to get kitted out into what we gear we had all brought.
- 11.30am
Bus departed towards the top of Pen Y Pas
and it's Car Park.
- 11.40am
Arrived at the Pen Y Pas Car Park
- 11.45am
After a quick toilet stop and a check of our gear we made the first steps onto the Pyg Trail and begun our quest to conquer the Three Peaks Challenge.
- 12.15am
After the initial first climb we were rewarded with our first breathtaking mountain view looking down towards the lake. From here there was 45 minutes of ascent in mild weather with the occasional flurry of sleet and rain. As we got to the start of the final steep climbs the snow and ice levels increased coupled with the poor visibility from the cloud we were entering made it all the more hazadous.
- 1.45pm
We all reached the summit where the wind, as the weather report predicted, was gale force at times. A few quick photos and we all huddled together to congratulate and made our descent.
- 3.15pm
We traversed from the Pyg Trail onto the Miners Path for the rest of the descent taking in some fantastic views. This also gave us chance to assess a different route, should we need it, and
gave us less strain as this path isn't as steep as the Pyg Trail. Also. considering the conditions, it was a vary busy Saturday and in technical places there were queues up and down the mountain passed obstacles on the first trail.
- 4.30pm
All arrived back safely at the Pen Y Pass car park for the bus back to our vehicles.
